TIPS FOR YOUR FIRST EVER COMPETITION

The idea of competing can be intimidating to most people. But don't worry. We are here to help you succeed and be the best dancer you can be. Majority of people competing at your levels have the same or very similar dance experience like you do. The main goal of competing is to have fun, meet new people, be a part of a wonderful event, surrounded by supportive and amazing people.

Look happy!

- SMILE! You are dancing and having the time of your life. There's nothing for you to worry about!

Fake it til you make it!

- Even if you mess up or feel unsure about something, just keep going and dance with the music. Chances are the judge might not even notice your mistake because you just smiled your way through.

Posture

- Judges only look for a few thing in Newcomer categories and posture gives them their first impression of you. Start your dance with your chin up, look confident, shoulders relaxed and you 90% secure your spot in the next round.

Timing

- Once you start dancing, timing is the next thing the judges will look at. Make sure you are not rushing in slow dances and break on 2 in Chacha, Rumba and Mambo. Judges are aware that you are newcomers, they are not looking for perfect techniques.

Performance

- Do not think you are on the floor for a first-place ribbon. Think about being there to put on a show. Your teammates are cheering for you. Look happy, smile and present yourself as if your dance is the best dance everyone has ever seen.

ENJOY!

- Most importantly, enjoy the moment and every steps you take. Be proud of yourself as you are doing something that not everyone could do. You are part of a select group that have the courage and the talent to showcase their ability. You are making happy memories that would last a lifetime.
