BALLROOM COMPETITIONS!
All competitions are open to all dancers at any levels. They are the best way for you to practice, improve and watch amazing couples. We will carpool to the competition, possibly spend a night or two in a hotel for non-local competitions, spend the next day(s) dancing your heart out, getting callbacks and winning, and watching Open-level dancers. There are categories based on skill levels, including Newcomer/Beginners for those who have danced for less than one semester. If you do not have a partner, we are here to help you!

Levels and Dance Styles
- Competitions offered dances at 7 levels: Newcomer, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Novice, Pre-Championship and Championship. Newcomer level is exclusively for dancers with less than 6 months of experience. Most competitors start at this level as you will compete against those who have started at the same time as you are to make it fair and fun for first-time competitors. If you wish to continue competing (which you definitely should), you will move up to Bronze and progress through the levels that fit your improvement. For each levels, there are 4 styles: International Standard (Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, Quickstep), International Latin (Chacha, Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble, Jive), American Smooth (Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz) and American Rhythm (Rumba, Chacha, Mambo, East Coast Swing, Bolero). You can choose to do any or all of these 19 dances at a competition. We always encourage you to dance as many dances as possible as most competitions include unlimited entries.

Competition Progress
- Each event (dance) will have several rounds, each last about 90 seconds with about 20-30 couples on the floor at first round. About 3-6 judges will walk around the perimeter of the floor. If enough judges mark you down, you will advance to the next round. In final rounds (usually consist of 6-8 couples), you will be ranked numerically to get your final placements.
